Viotti Concerto!

MMF Visiting Quintet
I thought it was AMAZING!! It was really cool to watch the harp player's fingers and the way she plucked the strings. I thought the repertoire was good - I REALLY enjoyed the first piece. The cello and harp piece I wasn't too crazy about - I appreciated it, but it sounded very modern, which I didn't enjoy as much as some of the other pieces. I also really liked the harp solo. Joana had told me about the really crazy 1st violin passage in the Beethoven at my lesson on Tuesday, and how she still has trouble playing it, so I was waiting for that section throughout the whole piece - and I really liked it. The violin part was crazy, but it had the nice sweeping melody on top that all combined to make a delicious salad of music. I have always loved playing in chamber ensembles, and especially the Beethoven made me think of Kinhaven. I couldn't help imagining myself in Joana's spot, playing the pieces - I love watching Joana play as well, because she plays with so much emotion and moves her body with the music. She has incredible bow control, and used a variety of bow strokes throughout the program. In my lesson on Tuesday, she talked to me about performing the music, even more than necessarily getting everything technically correct. It was great to have the performance as a followup to that lesson, because it was a good example of what she was talking about. It was a really great concert, and I'm glad we got to see it.
